History

Wim Cycle was established in 1972 under the name CV Indonesia Makmur by Mr Hendra Widjaja. The company started out manufacturing bicycle parts in central Surabaya.

In 1976, the company name changed to PT Wijaya Indonesia Makmur Bicycle Industries and expanded to include the manufacture of bicycles, as well as parts, at Desa Bambe Driyorejo Industrial Estate.

In 1984, the company began producing bicycles for the domestic market, and in 1987 started exporting its bicycles to Saudi Arabia, as well as to Germany, Holland, Italy, Greece and other European countries.

PT Wijaya Indonesia Makmur Bicycle Industries established PT Wahyu Sakti Abadi, for the manufacture of bicycles for the high-end market in 1989.

In 1991, Wim Cycle started exporting its bicycles to the US, supplying large chain stores such as Toys 'R' Us, Wal-Mart and Target. This was followed, in 1994, by the export of its products to Canada, supplying hypermarkets including Canadian Tire and Home Hard Ware. The product entered Canadian department store Sears in 1996. At the same time, the company began exporting bicycles to Japan.

In 1996, the company established two other manufacturing arms to produce bicycle rims and wheel chains. Meanwhile, PT Wahyu Sakti Abadi upgraded to a fully automated production plant, which includes welding machinery for front forks, wet paint and powder painting lines, wheel adjustment machinery and an assembly line.

In 1998, Wim Cycle started exporting its products to South America, including Argentina, Brazil, Colombia and Mexico.

The company has come a long way from a small home industry in central Surabaya producing bicycle parts to a market leader in the international bicycle industry. The path to success was not always smooth. The company’s growth is directly linked to consumer satisfaction, which represents the foundation of the company’s commitment.

Wim Cycle believes that it has a duty to preserve the earth for future generations. It will continue to protect the environment by promoting bicycle transportation as a solution to the pollution problems in Indonesia today.
